Relationships in Social Media - Visiting YlePuhe Radio

Yesterday we were visiting a radio show with my colleague Vilma Lehtinen (@vilmalehtinen). Forthcoming Valentine's Day framed the topic of relationships in social media. Vilma's dissertation has closely examined how people construct their relations within social network services. She has been pioneering the field by having communities like IRC-galleria but also IRC on her focus.

We talked about the increasing amount of relationships in everyday life and about the quality of those. What was especially interesting seems to be the time we spend on nursing our relationships. And not only those that are the most significant to us, but invest more and more time on more distant relations. Most of the time we are available for our connections, and that is something that is challenging our minds and bodies.

I have to more weeks to go before submitting my dissertation to the preliminary examination. Can't wait for the future!
