Statistics Finland released today December, 9, 2016 the latest statistics of social media use in Finland. The figures are in line with what was expected based on the previous years numbers. The dataset exposes many interesting details, but to get an overall picture of the scale I gathered a time series that describes the change during the past five years (see my older compilation here). The stats are collected from 2011-2016 and they include even the oldest age-group 75-89. An interpretation of the figure above suggests, that social media use has increased in all age groups expect for 16-24 year olds. It also stands quite evident that the the increase in other age groups is very moderate. 25-34 year olds (88%) have almost reached the younger age group (89%). Another interesting detail is that the 45-54 year olds have come above the average this year.
In the overall population 56 % of people use social media, that is a 3 percent increase from the last year.
